Beach Volleyball
When: 11am - 3 pm, Sunday, July 11, 1999.
Where: Beach at the parking lot south west of Ripple (5101 E. Ocean Blvd)
in Long Beach
Info: Last month we had our first volleyball
practice of this year. About 20 people showed up at the famous gay beach in Long Beach.
The weather was very nice and the beach was beautiful, not to mention the cute boys
showing their stuff at the beach. We played six games and everybody had a lot of fun. The
practice ended around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We hope more people will join us in
July. We need more practice before the tournament in September. You should come even if
you don't want to play volleyball. The boys sun-tanning at the beach should be enough for
you to get there and join the fun. Snacks and cold drinks will be provided by
CRA.

From the Co-Chairs:
We'd like to thank everyone who participated in CSW - the annual gay pride festival
of Los Angles. This year was our third time to be marching in the parade. We showed off
our new CRA banner which was very eye-catching, thanks to Hector's design. Andre (see next
page for his personal account of the parade experience), Simon, Joseph, and James marched
for the very first time and everyone agreed that was a very liberating and uplifting
experience. We are planning to have a big contingent next year and possibly have a small
float. We sincerely hope more people will join the CRA parade next time. During the
Pride Weekend, we also hosted a booth inside the festival together with other gay Asian
organizations. Many people signed up at our booth and inquired about CRA. We'd like to
give special thanks to people who volunteered to sell festival tickets for CRA. They are:
Paul, Eagle, Qiao, Rex, Alex. We'd like to acknowledge our appreciation for all the work
David Hong put into the ticket sales effort. It was hard work, but it was certainly worth
the effort. The exact amount of the ticket sales income has not come in yet, but our
share should be in the hundreds.
We
received an anonymous donation of $240 from a CRA member last month. We'd like to thank
him for his generosity and support. We'll try even harder this year to raise funds for
future CRA activities. --L. Zhou and Y. Song
From
the Social Coordinator:
The CRA Banquet is Coming! Members can look forward to having a
sumptuous Chinese banquet soon. We all know that the Chinese cuisine is the best in the
world. We should be the first to appreciate such a culinary art. We will be meeting in a
Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and dining on an authentic 8-course Chinese dinner. This
event is not to be missed! The date and other information will be announced in the next
newsletter. So please come and tell your friends to join us as well. Bon appetite!
Show
Your Card Good news! CRA member Edward C. generously donated his time and
resources to make CRA membership cards. CRA is negotiating with several interesting
businesses and clubs to obtain discounts for our members. Be sure to come to our July
social event to pick up your card. -- Andre T.
From
the Membership Coordinator:
Membership Fee Restructuring In order to streamline membership
application and renewal process we have implemented some changes to the membership fee
structure. A detailed letter has been sent to every member. Please read through the new
rules carefully. Please pay your membership fee if it is overdue. Thanks. -- Hector

About CRA
China Rainbow
Association, a gay Chinese social support organization, is based in Los Angeles,
California. CRA was established by volunteers to address the unique needs of the gay
Chinese community in the southern California area in 1996. Our mission is to promote
friendship and unity, provide assistance, foster social and political awareness, and
enhance positive self-image among the gay Chinese. Many of our members are
immigrants and CRA is striving to become a home for members away from home. |
