Canalys: Samsung King of the World Mobile Market Q1-2022

ChinaRainbow.org – Market research institute Canalys released its latest global smartphone shipment report for the first quarter of 2022.

In the first three months (January-March), Canalys research showed Samsung as the top mobile phone vendor, aka the company that sends the most smartphones worldwide, with a market share of 24 percent.

This figure increased from the 22 percent market share achieved by the South Korean company in the first quarter of 2021 (Year-over-Year).

According to Canalys, samsung’s business performance improvement is contributed by the trio of Galaxy S22 Series and a number of Galaxy A Series models that sell well in the market.

Trailing Samsung, Apple came in second place with a market share of 18 percent, an increase from the 15 percent market share achieved in the same period last year.

Canalys said the increase in Apple phone shipments was contributed by sales of the iPhone SE 2022, as well as the iPhone 13 Series which was claimed to be quite good.

On the other hand, if the market share of Samsung and Apple increases, the market share of mobile phone vendors in the third, fourth, and fifth positions, namely Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo actually decreased in the first quarter of 2022.

The three mobile phone vendors have a market share of 13 percent (Xiaomi), 10 percent (Oppo), and 8 percent (Vivo), down from the previous year which was 14 percent (Xiaomi), 11 percent (Oppo), and 10 percent (Vivo) respectively.

Global smartphone shipments decline

Overall, Canalys also claimed that total global mobile phone shipments in the first quarter of 2022 decreased by 11 percent when compared to the same period last year.

According to Canalys, this is due to a number of factors ranging from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the policy of restrictions on movement (lockdown) in China, as well as inflation that hit the global economy.

Canalys did not say how many smartphones were shipped globally in the first quarter of 2022.

However, they predict that future mobile phone shipments will not have the same fate as the period earlier this year.

Because, the scarcity of semiconductor products that hit the global market is said they will soon recover in the future.

Regardless, check out the list of the five best-selling mobile phone vendors in the world in the first quarter of 2022 by Canalys, as summarized by KompasTekno from Canalys.com, Wednesday (04/20/2022).
